Do You Game?

I am a gamer, it all started in 1991/92 with Sonic the Hedgehog. What a game! 
Me and my mate Tom stood open mouthed and amazed as Tom’s dad presented his son with a Sega Mega Drive and Sonic. For years we gamed together playing games like Golden Axe, After burner & Road Rash all in stunning 16-bit graphics.

Writing this I actually gasped, but 24 years later I am still loving gaming, and I still game with Tom and a few others guys. Now its PS4 with HD graphics and continual communication over headsets and super fast fibre optic broadband.  The funny thing is we are a group of mates who don’t call each other, we only chat over the game. We live miles apart and lead busy lives but make time to game.

The point of this section on the CVM website is that we believe you can use gaming as a fantastic way of reaching out to men who are part of an online community. If a lot of what you have read seems like a code, just take a look at the stats, other ministries focusing only on gaming and even some event ideas to give you some great methods of using gaming as a church and Men’s group.

Events/Tournament Ideas

  • Form a gaming clan and invite guys who game to join in
  • Organise a night/s to play certain games and chat
  • Link with a game launch or specific challenge game
  • Competitions – Online, PC/X BOX ONE/PS4 Even challenge some guys from CVM!
  • Classic gaming night for the old guys, SEGA MEGA DRIVES/ATARI/SPECTRUM even some classic board games!
  • Dads and kids gaming challenge days – Multiple Xboxes/PS4s PS3s at one venue with a few TV screens (Bacon rolls)
  • Try Minecraft – Dads and kids minecraft event which could feed into a Who Let The Dad’s out Event you may be running.
  • A good team could enter a national/international competition with the CVM GAMING branding and bring home some trophies for us! Gaming clans/factions/teams for CVM men’s groups.
